Ontario, today 864 new cases: 76% are not vaccinated

TORONTO – More than 800 new cases of Covid-19, today, in Ontario. But also many tests, more than 34 thousand, the highest number since the beginning of June. The positivity rate therefore remains low (at 2.4%, yesterday it was 2.5%) and in any case down from 3.1% last week. 

The positive trend therefore seems to be confirmed, despite the 864 infections today against 593 on Wednesday (with 33,220 tests performed), even if the seven-day moving average of the new cases rises slightly (732, last week it was 723) but it is necessary to keep present schools have just been reopened, with the inevitable outbreaks.

Of today’s new cases, 655 (76%) were detected in individuals who are not fully vaccinated or have an unknown vaccination status, while 209 (24%) in fully immunized people.

Currently there are 191 ICU patients in Ontario hospitals, up slightly from 185 on Thursday. Of these, 178 are not fully vaccinated or have unknown vaccination status and 13 are fully immunized.

As for the territorial distribution of today’s infections, 162 are in Toronto, 122 in the Peel region, 78 in the York region, 64 in Ottawa, 53 in Hamilton and 50 in Windsor.

Three deaths were reported today, although provincial health officials say the tally is for deaths in the last month.

Moving on to Quebec, today the province recorded 782 cases (exceeding 400 thousand infections since the onset of the pandemic) and 2 deaths. Hospitalizations are on the rise: patients in hospitals are now 256 (+6): of these, 87 people in intensive care (+2).

In Alberta, where a state of emergency has been declared, cases are on the rise and hospitalization and intensive care rates continue to rise. As many as 1,609 new cases of Covid-19 registered on Wednesday, out of 15,831 tests carried out, for an Alberta positivity rate that stands at 10.5 percent, and 24 deaths that bring the death toll to 2,495. The cases still active in the province are 18,421.
