TORONTO – Canadians have waited with “bated breath” for a federal budget since April of 2024. “The Budget”, once presented, in the House of Commons, debated and approved (with or without amendments) serves as authority to tax and spend the people’s money (ours) in the interests of the country (ours).
TORONTO – When it comes to the issues of political value, members of the Press and Media pontificate – a lot; make that always! I do it! Vigilance is part of “the “mandate”, or so I/we justify it. Exercised responsibly, press/media criticism represents a great privilege for those who do so on the public’s behalf. The Political process and its elected players are always a prime target – “low hanging fruit”, so the saying goes.
TORONTO – Judging by the posturing in Canada’s House of Commons Question Period (and consequent debate among the select few “insiders” chosen to inform the federal public about its meanings), the country may find itself in the throes of a general election in very short order. Anything is possible in a Parliamentary Constitutional Monarchy. Members of Parliament are, strictly speaking, only advisors to the monarch. If the executive branch of that advisory group (Cabinet) cannot demonstrate that its advice – proposals and regulations for effective administration – do not have the support/confidence of the majority of his Majesty’s advisors, then His Majesty seeks different advisors. It is that simple.
