Covid-19, truce already over: another 15 dead in Ontario

Marzio Pelù, May 31, 2022August 25, 2023

TORONTO – After the truce of the last two days, deaths related to Covid-19 in Ontario are back on the rise: today another 15 (3 of which in a long-term care home), which bring the total to the province, since the beginning of the pandemic, to 13.241.

808 infected patients in Ontario hospitals: yesterday they had dropped to 611, but the figure was probably still affected by the weekend effect (not all hospitals provide data on holidays). Today’s number of hospitalized is still less than that of a week, when there were 890. 140 people in intensive care, in this case instead down from the previous 24 hours when they were 147: it is the lowest number of Covid patients in intensive care since November 26, 2021.

Infectious specialist Dr. Zain Chagla says most parameters should continue to improve during the summer season. “I think that compared to a couple of months ago we are definitely in a better position. Numbers in intensive care are decreasing, hospitalizations in ordinary wards are decreasing. And the numbers related to the presence of the virus in wastewater are also decreasing” he told CP24 today. “We will probably see a summer of calm like the one we have seen in all three years. And then autumn will be the year when we have to start deciding what to do when the numbers start to rise”.

In the last 24 hours, 9,535 tests (reserved only for” at risk “categories) have been developed in Ontario with a rate 8.3% positivity, up from 7.6% yesterday but down from 9.1% a week ago. 590 infections detected: of the latter cases, 347 individuals received three or more vaccine doses, 110 have received doses, 82 have received unvaccinated and 5 have an unknown vaccination status.

Active and non-active cases in Ontario are now, official, 10,204 (10,753 yesterday). Since the start of the pandemic, 1,303,033 cases of Covid-19 were recorded in the province and 1,279,588 recovered from the disease.
