New infections in Ontario, increasing average: + 16%

TORONTO – Slight drop in new Covid-19 cases in Ontario today: the province recorded 613 new infections, up from 627 on Monday and 741 on Sunday. The seven-day moving average is now 675, an increase of 16.5% compared to a week ago, when it was 579. 20,000 tests processed today in Ontario, for a positive rate of 3.1% . 

According to reports from the Ontario Ministry of Health, 288 of the cases today involving unvaccinated people, 30 with one dose, 266 fully vaccinated and 29 people with an unknown vaccination status. “Unvaccinated and partially vaccinated people make up 52% ​​of cases on Tuesday – explains the Ministry – despite forming only 25% of the population of Ontario”.

In turn, the Ontario Scientific Table notes that “complete vaccination is still associated with a relative reduction in the risk of infection of 81% and a relative reduction of 92% in the risk of hospitalization.”

Six deaths were also recorded today, bringing Ontario’s total death toll since the start of the pandemic to 9,974.

The number of active (known) Ontario cases is 5,487.

In Ontario hospitals, 282 people are hospitalized for Covid-19 and 134 are in intensive care, one more than on Monday.

Regarding the territorial distribution of today’s new cases across the GTA, Toronto reported 72 new cases, the Peel region 35 and the York region 47. Durham reported 22 new cases, Halton 10 and Hamilton 13.

Moving on to Quebec, another 699 cases were recorded today (out of a total of 22,723 samples analyzed), of which 435 (about 62%) concern people not fully vaccinated and 264 (about 37%) people completely vaccinated.

Another 5 deaths, bringing Quebec’s total since the start of the pandemic to 11,565, while the number of people who have recovered from coronavirus in Quebec is now 422,571 and the positivity rate hovers around 2.9% on Tuesday.

Admissions in the hospitals have dropped by one in the past 24 hours after another 16 people were hospitalized and 17 were discharged. Of the 16 people admitted to the hospital, 9 are not vaccinated and 7 are fully vaccinated. Currently, the total hospitalizations are 203, of which 46 in intensive care, which have remained stable since Monday.

6,326 active and known cases in the province.
