Ontario: active cases drop below 4 thousand

TORONTO – Ontario remains below 500 daily cases of Covid-19: today 443 cases were recorded, while on Saturday there were 486 and Friday 496. The seven-day moving average is now 465, a sharp decline compared to a week ago (538). 

According to data released by the Ministry of Health, 231 of today’s cases in Ontario involved unvaccinated people, 20 with a single dose, 155 fully vaccinated and 37 with an unknown vaccination status. Furthermore, 128 cases involved people aged 19 or younger. The provincial laboratories have processed 27,395 test samples: the positivity rate is 1.4%.

There are now 3,898 known active cases of Covid-19 in the province, down 40 from Saturday: it is the province’s lowest infection burden since August 16.

164 patients in hospital intensive care units, unchanged from Saturday. Of these, 93 breathe with the help of a ventilator.

In the GTA, Toronto reported 58 new cases today, the Peel region 80, the York region 32 new cases and the Durham region 18 new cases. The Halton region reported 14 new cases and Hamilton 26.

On the vaccine front, another 23,011 doses were administered in Ontario on Saturday: of these, 7,712 were first doses and 15,299 were second doses.

Quebec recorded 532 cases on Sunday, 360 of which related to people not fully vaccinated. To be precise, 341 are unvaccinated, 19 with a dose of vaccine and 172 fully vaccinated. The province also recorded 4 deaths.

Also today, 17 people were admitted to Quebec hospitals and 23 were discharged, bringing the total admissions to 303. Of these, 76 people are in intensive care units (-2). Of the new patients, 7 are not vaccinated, 2 received one dose more than two weeks ago, and 8 received the second dose more than seven days ago.

6,445 (known) cases still active in Quebec.
