TORONTO – Another 58 deaths, bringing the total from the beginning of the pandemic to 11,412, while the number of beds occupied by Covid patients in Ontario hospitals still drops: from 3,439 on Saturday to 3,019 yesterday, of which 587 in units of intensive care (ICU). Therefore, the trend already underway in the last week continues.
On the contagion front, Ontario today reported 3,960 new cases of Covid-19 (a number far from reality due to the limitation of access to tests to “at risk” categories only) out of a total of 23,638 tests processed, for a rate positive of 13.5%. Most infections were identified in the Greater Toronto Area: 721 new cases in Toronto, 557 in the Peel region, 234 in the York region and 119 in the Durham region. 224 cases in Ottawa. There are now 46,950 active and known cases in Ontario.
In Quebec, there were 11 deaths today, bringing the total – from the beginning of the pandemic – to 13,190.
There are now 2,895 people hospitalized due to Covid-19, a decrease of 80 (180 patients have been hospitalized and 260 have been discharged).
Quebec health authorities have provided details of the vaccination status of the 180 new hospitalized patients: of the 119 over the age of 60, 46 have triple vaccination, 44 double vaccination, 28 are not vaccinated and 1 received a dose of the vaccine; Of the 61 patients under 60, 27 are twice vaccinated, 15 are unvaccinated, 9 have triple vaccination and 3 have received one dose, while a further 7 patients are less than 5 years old and ineligible to receive the vaccine. The number of intensive care units has increased by 2: the total number of ICU admissions is now 233, after 22 patients have been hospitalized or transferred to intensive care. Of the new ICU patients, 14 are over 60 years old: 7 have two doses of the vaccine, 4 are not vaccinated and 3 have triple vaccination. There are also 6 new patients in intensive care under 60 years of which 3 with double vaccination, 1 with triple vaccination and 2 under the age of five and therefore not vaccinable.
As for the new infections, on 28,491 samples analyzed 2,838 positive cases were detected, with a positivity rate of 11.4%. There are now 50,593 active and known cases in Quebec.
