Ontario sets new vaccination record, but the chaos persists for the second vaccine doses

Francesco Veronesi, June 16, 2021August 25, 2023

TORONTO – Ontario sets a new vaccination record; more than 202,000, according to covid19tracker.ca, but at the same time, the problems that emerged on the second vaccination for the residents of the hotspots were not solved. In general, the mass vaccination campaign proceeds in stages dispatched according to the roadmap presented by the provincial government. At this rate, the standards for entering the second phase of the reopening of the province’s road map should be reached even before the date announced earlier, on July 2nd. According to Premier Doug Ford and Health Minister Christine Elliott, the two conditions necessary for the subsequent easing of restrictions related to the number of vaccinated. For the first dose, the minimum number is 70% of residents over the age of 12, while it must be at least 20% for the latter.

At this rate,  the two prerequisites will be reached within a week or ten days. As phase 2 of the government’s road map approaches, pressure is also mounting on the provincial government to start easing some restrictions as soon as possible. today it was the turn of Patrick Brown, who officially asked the executive to bring forward the reopening of barbershops, hairdressers, and beauty centers. “Taking into account the fact that the overall picture on Covid has improved enormously in recent days – said the Brampton Mayor – the various lockdowns throughout the province have fed a kind of underground economy concerning personal care services. The reality is that, despite barbers and hairdressers being closed, people get their hair cut somehow. It happens in backyards, in garages. I believe there is a way to reopen these businesses safely before 2 July.”

In any case, if the immunization campaign proceeds quickly in Ontario, inconvenience, delays, and inefficiencies persist for the third consecutive day for all those who have to book the appointment for the second dose of vaccine in provincial hot spots. Even throughout today, fortune-take-outs from Toronto, Peel Region and the York Region were directed to other parts of the province – once again Wasaga Beach, Tottenham and other towns – where there are still places available. In three days, the provincial health authorities have not yet solved the logistical problem related to the linear distribution of vaccines for the next few weeks and the consequent possibility of booking the second dose immediately. In any case, the situation should normalize in the next few days, or at least hopefully.
