Another 21 victims and active cases still decreasing in Ontario but not in Quebec

Marzio Pelù, April 28, 2022August 25, 2023

TORONTO – The “swing” of Covid hospitalizations continues: one day they drop, the next day they increase, and so on. Today in Ontario is the day of the decline: from the 1,734 yesterday to the 1,661 today. 202 patients in intensive care compared to 211 on Wednesday. The positive note is that there is a constant good data (at least so far) and it is that of the decline in active and known cases: today 31,464 against 31,675 on Wednesday (32,747 on Tuesday, 33,905 on Monday and 34,520 on Sunday).

It is true that the tests carried out – limited only to the “at risk” categories – are few: in the last 24 hours, 18,875 were processed, with 3,560 cases detected for a positive rate of 14.5%, down from 15% of the day before. However, the number of victims is still high: today another 21, bringing the total in Ontario, from the beginning of the pandemic, to 12,792. Ontario has so far recorded 1,252,578 laboratory-confirmed cases and 1,208,322 infected individuals have recovered.

The number of deaths is also high in Quebec where today 23 deaths were recorded, bringing the total in the French-speaking province, from the beginning of the pandemic, to 14,951. However, the number of Covid patients in hospitals decreases: from 2,372 yesterday to 2,326 today. Cases in intensive care units also drop, from 92 to 85.

The province recorded 1,768 new official cases (based only on tests reserved for “at risk” categories, as in Ontario). As for the do-it-yourself tests carried out at home by citizens and declared in the portal activated by the Quebec government to monitor the situation, on the other hand, out of the 552 entered today 452 are positive. Since the portal was activated, 197,849 tests have been entered, of which 161,605 positive. The active and known cases are now, officially, 38,166, therefore still increasing compared to the 36,412 of yesterday (34,380 Tuesday, 32,742 Monday). Since the start of the pandemic, 1,039,426 official cases have been reported in Quebec and 986,309 have resolved with the patient’s recovery.

Meanwhile, the situation of personnel in hospitals is always difficult: today, 9,377 health workers were still absent for reasons related to the pandemic. Down by 137 compared to the previous day, but still a lot.
