Welcome to the Canadian National Multilingual News Group (CNMNG). This is a project made possible through funding by Canadian Heritage. TORONTO – Said and done. Bank of Canada raised the interest rate by another 0.50, taking it from 3.25 to 3.75 percent. Since last March, the central bank has raised the reference rate six times, “with the aim of combating inflation and bringing it back to the 2% target”, as the central bank has always maintained. A goal that is far from being achieved, as the Bank of Canada admits in the statement published today on its website (here). →
TORONTO – While the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) has breathed fresh air after Monday’s election – in about half of the wards where voters have decreed a change of guard of school trustees – at the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) the situation has remained largely unchanged.
TORONTO – Power is woman. Even in politics. While today for Giorgia Meloni, Italy’s first woman prime minister, was the day of confidence, in Ontario there were more women elected in municipal elections.
TORONTO – John Tory has been re-elected mayor of Toronto: with this third term, if he remains in office for all four years, he will become the longest-serving mayor of Toronto, beating Art Eggleton who spent as mayor of Toronto a total of 11 years, in office since 1980 until his retirement from municipal politics in 1991. →
TORONTO – David Miller (in the pic above), former Toronto mayor until he was “shunned” out town before the public got the chance to “throw him out”, reappeared to sully the waters of Toronto once again.
TORONTO – We may be one step away from ending the pandemic but we still need to grit our teeth. The light at the end of the tunnel can be glimpsed but at this moment you can not pull the oars in the boat and let yourself go to easy enthusiasms. This is essentially the message of the World Health Organization (WHO).
TORONTO – Canada is approaching recession, families are on their knees but the central bank “pulls straight” and on Wednesday tomorrow will announce yet another interest rate hike.
TORONTO – Friendly journalists can give you a free ride and distort reality. That’s your hope, if you “suck up” to them and give them stories they can print, until the public wizens up to this “fake news”.
TORONTO – “We know that they are there to talk about what their next political decisions will be, we also know that in the end a strike can be avoided by coming to the negotiating table with a real proposal that respects workers and that respects families.” This was stated by the president of the Ontario School Board Council of Unions (OSBCU) Laura Walton, present at the protest that was held Saturday in front of the Toronto Congress Centre where a general meeting of the Progressive Conservative of Ontario was underway.
TORONTO – We borrowed the headline from a column written by Jamil Jivani, a writer/broadcaster/lawyer, for the National Post last October 18 (in the pic above, the article on National Post’s website). He went on to say that Catholics, as a group of Canadians, “suffered the biggest spike in hate crimes last year”. He supports his premise with facts. Mr. Jivani is a reputable and consistent advocate for balance, equity and inclusion. He is also a member of a visible minority.
TORONTO – “It will be a difficult period for the Canadian economy”. Federal Minister of Finance, Chrystia Freeland (in the pic above, from her Facebook page), issued a warning: the next few months will not be good as the Bank of Canada’s recent rate hikes to tame (according to the bank itself) skyrocketing inflation will increase borrowing costs for businesses and consumers, which will send shockwaves throughout the economy, Freeland said, effectively echoing a concept that many economists have been arguing for months. →
TORONTO – The annual inflation rate falls, but that’s not good news as food prices continue to rise. This is what emerges from the latest report on the consumer price index by Statistics Canada, which shows that inflation fell slightly, in September, to 6.9 per cent (from 7% in August), but it is solely due to the drop in the price of gas, which fell by 7.4% in September. →

Facing a breakdown in negotiations with education workers and teachers, Minister of Education, Stephen Lecce, decided to take his message directly to an audience most sensitive in the event of a “job action”. Parents and grandparents of schoolchildren from family-oriented ethnic communities.
