The Day of the Flag of the Republic of Poland is celebrated as a holiday on May 2nd.
Every year on this day, Poles proudly display their flags outside. Each of us can celebrate the Red and White by hanging it, e.g., in the window or on the balcony of our apartment or in front of the house.
The Polish flag is with us at all important moments. During solemn events, but also on days of mourning after the loss of outstanding and brave Poles, in moments of emotion and joy.
On May 2nd – apart from the Flag Day – we also celebrate the Polonia Day – Day of the Polish Diaspora and Poles Abroad.
There are many forms of displaying the national colors, e.g. by wearing them in the form of a red and white national bow in the lapel of a coat or jacket.
The Flag Day was established by the Sejm – the lower house of parliament in 2004. This is a celebration that is to express respect for the flag and promote knowledge about Polish identity and national symbols.
The flag of the Republic of Poland consists of two horizontal stripes of equal width, white at the top and red at the bottom, in the aspect ratio of 5: 8. The common practice of inscriptions and drawings by fans watching sports competitions is allowed only on the national colors. The latter do not have specific proportions.
