Status update of Covid-19 cases worldwide

Here we provide a daily update of the data available for select countries and jurisdictions as of July 21, 2021, at 5:00pm EST.

On Wednesday, health officials in Mexico logged over 13,000 new infections, numbers not seen in five months. Of the cumulative 2.6 confirmed positive cases, 78.6% are considered recovered. In the last 24-hours, Covid-related deaths increased by 341, brining the total number of fatalities to 236,810.

Ndp: no renewal of Orchard Villa license

TORONTO – A resounding no to Orchard Villa requests. The Ontario NDP is pressing the provincial government to respond in spades to the requests made by the long-term care home Orchard Villa to be able to expand the structure by adding another 87 beds and the license renewed for another 30 years. “The request is disturbing for the family members of the people who died in this LTC ,” reads the letter signed by leader Andrea Horwath and Oshawa MP Jennifer French. Today in Ontario 135 new infected and 4 new deaths

TORONTO – July 21, 2021: Canada stood today at 1,424,503 positives for Covid-19, an increase of 470 more cases than in the previous 24 hours. The number of victims – nationwide – today reached 26,512 total deaths, 6 more than Tuesday. In Canada today the number of recovered people from the coronavirus stood at 1,393,366. Ontario today reached 548,609 overall positives, an increase of 135 new cases compared to Tuesday. (more…)

School and pandemic: a Minister in isolation, absent School boards and non-existent plans

TORONTO – Safety plans, guidelines, mask use, physical distance, maximum limit of students, vaccination obligation for school staff. These are some of the issues on which, just over six weeks before the beginning of the school year, our political class should start a serious and constructive debate, incorporating the indications and inputs of the provincial scientific community, trade associations and school provveditorati.
