Ontario, hospitalizations doubled in 20 days

TORONTO – Hospitalizations with or due to Covid-19 continue to increase. Today, infected patients in Ontario hospitals reached 1,090, against 977 on Sunday but above all against 551 on March 22, just twenty days ago. Intensive care admissions are also growing: now 184 beds are occupied by Covid inpatients, compared to 173 today. Some patients are hospitalized due to Covid-19, others for different reasons and test positive at the time of the hospital admission swab (so they are inpatiens with Covid-19).

Covid patients in ICUs are on the rise

TORONTO – 1,188 Covid hospitalizations in Ontario on Saturday, 977 today: a decrease that should not be deceiving, because on Sunday 10% of hospitals do not provide updates. But despite the incompleteness of the data, the number of patients in intensive care is still growing: +5 in 24 hours, with the total going to 173 (+ 4% compared to the previous week), of which 88 are breathing with the help of a fan. On a weekly basis, hospitalizations for (or with) Covid-19 increased by nearly 22%: seven days ago, there were 763 Covid patients in Ontario hospitals.

Covid-19, a new surge in cases and hospitalizations

TORONTO – New leap forward in hospitalizations today in Ontario: 1,126 people in hospital with Covid-19, compared to 1,074 just 24 hours earlier. The last time the count was so high was on February 19, when the number of inpatients was 1,191. On the other hand, the number of patients in intensive care fell, from 168 yesterday to 159 today. But the number of pandemic deaths remains high: another 16 today, bringing the total in Ontario from the beginning to 12,527.

Covid, boom of children in emergency rooms. From tomorrow fourth dose for the over 60s

TORONTO – This latest wave of Covid-19 seems to be affecting more children. Visits to hospital emergency rooms by children with severe symptoms are uphill since the pandemic began two years ago. In the last two weeks, 89 children have been hospitalized across the province of Ontario. And the pressure on the Ford government to restore the obligation to wear masks, following this recent spike in infections related to children, is growing. “We’re seeing guys who have a high fever. Children for whom it is painful to breathe, others who need oxygen supplementation,” said Dr. Brett Belchetz who serves in a Toronto emergency room.

Tories jeopardize the legislature pact: “More military spending”

TORONTO – Canada must increase its military spending until it reaches its NATO agreement quota. This was requested today by the Conservative Party, on the eve of the presentation of the federal budget scheduled for tomorrow at the House of Commons. Kerry-Lynne Findlay, conservative shadow Defence minister, said: “It is time for Canada to contribute its fair share to NATO. As a founding member of the Atlantic Alliance, the peace and security that Canadians have enjoyed over the past 73 years have been underpinned by the collective security promise that any attack on a NATO country would be an attack on everyone.”
